I’m going The Extra Mile!

I'm going The Extra Mile this March! 

Even $1 dollar will make a difference in being a blessing to these families. 

This year, 438 Aussie babies will be born with cerebral palsy - I’m committing to riding at least 438km in March - every km I ride and every dollar I raise will help give them hope.

STACKED IT!

Tuesday 15th Mar
All in the name of charity 😜 433km km to go for the 1000 which I said I would do.  Sucks to stack it though - the bike looks to be okay, hopefully no damage, I’ll investigate later today 😭 My Extra mile top got damaged as I landed on my shoulder, luckily the fabric took the brunt of the force and not my skin as I slid about 5m or so down the road.

438Km done, now the rest!

Saturday 12th Mar
When I started this journey I was very doubtful, didnt think i could do it honestly... $750 bucks, jesshhh... but praise God i did get to it.  

To add to that, I told my mates and anyone that would listen (there werent that many) that I would do 1000km if I raised $1000... 

I've gone over the $1000 which is awesome, now i need to get the 1000km done!

I need to smash this as soon as I can, weather or life can get in the way and all of a sudden you're at the last couple of weeks or even the last week of the month and you have hundreds of Km to do which ends up being unrealistic and you dont hit the goal you set.  Dont want to be that guy, that's why I've needed to be aggressive and get this done early on.  

Just under 500Km to go.

Here is the green jersey being represented in the Saturday morning group ride I am part of.  These guys (and gal) are awesome and some have supported my efforts and have donated to this great cause.

The jersey fits well, gonna use it for the entire March challenge to spread the word out there... although most of my rides are in the dark I do get an hour or 2 in the day time to show off the jersey and THEEXTRAMILE

Unsung hero

Friday 11th Feb
Had a ride this morning with a guy I met recently.  He opened up about having a 10 year old with disabilities.  The struggles they face and the incredible love they have for this beautiful boy.  

These guys will never get a medal, the news will never make this a top story, they will never receive any awards or recognition, these people are incredibly strong and amazing - blows me away even though to them it’s the normal day to day.  

I guess because it doesn’t affect me directly, I didn’t really think about kids with disabilities much.  I mean, it’s in the back of my mind, I see it sometimes, my heart breaks for them and their families but because it’s not affecting me directly, I don’t feel the weight of it.  

This morning though, talking to this guy and hearing his story makes it more tangible brings it closer to home.  

Happy to be doing this riding in March and I’m blessed that my target has been reached, still pushing for the $1000.  Hope I get there!  

My son wanted to be like his daddy so he wore my kit.  Bit lose but he’ll grow into it 😂. (Had to end the post on a lighter note) 


Making it work

Tuesday 8th Feb
Another early morning ride, up at 0350.  90% of my 60k ride was in the dark... actually not that "fun" but it works.  That way I get back home semi early and can help out before heading off to work.

Once daylight savings stops the sun will come up while I am 50% through my ride!

Very blessed to have my 2 boys and just grateful again for being able to live in a country where there are organizations like these that help families with real needs.  

I was born in Argentina and this would not happen there I guarantee it.  

Very grateful and praying for the families that really do struggle with having kids with health issues.  I hope that this money being raised by a bunch of people will go a long way and make a HUGE difference.  

My donations have stagnated a bit, would love to reach the $1000 mark, my brain is working overtime to try and find people I can reach out to.

Don't know if anyone will read this, I am not a blogger at all!

I started this with a lot of insecurity, "will people support this?" "How will I ask for donations?" "What if I don't make my $750 target?"... "should I just go for $250 and keep it safe?" Then I said to myself... those questions are all about me... and it's not about me at all!!!

The reality is that $750 is nothing when it comes from many sources so that was my mindset and I was like "stuff it..." I'll aim for the $750 and start asking, it's not for me anyway, it's to help families in need! 

I am so glad that I have gone over the $750 now and it's such a blessing to know that people in my sphere of life have donated to help these families, they'll be blessed by being a blessing!

I've started logging the Ks but I am advised that they will reset at the start of March.  I am aiming for 438 x 2 = 876ks... lets round it up to 1000 ;)
